as most people yesterday fired up their grills for their fourth of july bbq, we celebrated with a different kind of meal, we celebrated our way.
fresh basil, serrano peppers, ripe tomatoes….italian penne pasta al dente. warm fresh baguette, red wine, bubbly water. smooth and peppery goat cheese, salty aged gouda. homemade blueberry clafoutis.
and that’s not to say i don’t like a good ol’ bbq – in fact, i love to bbq…..but to cook up a good, fresh meal made with real, natural ingredients is something that i can’t get enough of. and what better day to celebrate than america’s b-day? it’s my salute to america – – not by the actual food being eaten, but by the act itself….cooking, preparing, for the love of it. for the taste of handmade goodness….
so as the sun set above the sky in this suburban oasis, green grass sparkling, lightning bugs glowing, bats swooping in and out of the tall trees….we sat back and clinked our glasses in a toast.
a toast to good food, happy times, a wonderful night.
i hope your 4th was good too, and that you celebrated your way…we sure did.
